Platform Setup - Quickstart Guide

NOTE: You must have the Java 1.5 plug-in or higher installed on your computer before you begin this installation process. Click here for more about downloading the free Java plug-in. After you have installed the Java plug-in, you are now ready to download and install TWS 4.0-Installed Version.

1. Click here to begin the software download.

The "File Download" box will default to "Save this program to disk." Click "OK"

2. The "Save As" box will appear prompting you to save the application. The system will automatically default to "Desktop" and label the file with a default name. You may either accept the default name or change it. Click "Save" after assigning a file name.

3. The "File Transfer" box will display the estimated download time of the software application. Once the download is complete, you will either be prompted to click "OK" or your screen will return to the download page.

4. Now go to your Windows desktop. If the software download was successful, you will see the icon below. Double-click the icon.

5. After double-clicking the TWS icon, you will see the following box as your computer begins the TWS installation process.

6. The "Welcome" box prompts you to begin the TWS 4.0 Setup program. Click "Next"

7. The "Choose Destination Location" box will automatically install the necessary TWS files in the default "Destination Folder." Checking "Install TWS 3.0 - TWS 4.0 Page Converter" will copy all your saved TWS 3.0 screen pages and convert them for use by the Java-based TWS 4.0. Click "Next" to complete the process.

8. The "Select Connection Type" box will automatically default to Internet connection. If you are connecting via the Internet or as a Leased Line customer via Private WAN, and you are behind a firewall or some other type of restricted router, you will need to check off the bottom box stating "I am behind a firewall, proxy server, gateway, or restricted router." The "Firewall Setup" box will appear prompting you to enter various connection information. If, however, you are not accessing the TWS 4.0-Installed Version from behind a restricted router, please go to STEP 10, the "Choose Your Server" box.

9. The "Firewall Setup" box is only for those users that will be accessing the TWS 4.0-Installed Version from behind a restricted router. Whether via the Internet or a Private WAN, the information required will be the same. After you have entered the necessary IP address, click "Next."

10. If you checked Internet Connection Type, you will see the following box titled, "Choose Your Server - Internet." Choose the server location closest to you.

11. If you checked Private WAN Connection Type, you will see the following box titled, "Choose Your Server - WAN." Choose the server location closest to you.

12. Click "Next" to continue the installation process.

13. The "Installing" box displays which file is currently being installed on your computer and the time left for the remaining TWS files to be installed. Installation time will vary from user to user based upon their Internet connection.

14. Click "Finish" to complete the installation of TWS 4.0-Installed Version

15. Once you have completed the installation, the following icon will be displayed on your computer's desktop. Future access to TWS 4.0-Installed Version will be through this icon. To login to your account, simply double-click the IB Trader icon.

16. You will be prompted to enter your Username and Password. NOTE: If you have not installed the required Java plug-in, the Trader Workstation will not load properly but will prompt you to download the plug-in.
